Are these Spanish translations correct?
I asked a question similar to this a couple of days ago regarding translations for a family book I'm supposed to be making for Spanish 1. However, I have added some new sentences, headings for each page, and fixed some of the ones that were wrong. If any are incorrect in any way, please let me know and why? Thanks. I appreciate it.
This is my nephew, Gavin = Este es mi sobrino, Gavin
His birthday is on Valentine's Day = Su cumplea帽os es el d铆a de San Valent铆n.
He is seven years old = 脡l tiene siete a帽os.
My nephew wants to be a dentist = Mi sobrino quiere ser dentista.
This is me = Esta soy yo
I like to read = Me gusta leer.
I live by the library = Yo vivo por la biblioteca.
My favorite season is spring = Mi estaci贸n favorita es primavera.
This is my brother, Chris = Este es mi hermano, Chris

You could also say: El postre/ dulce favoritO de mi mam谩 es el helado

**She goes to college = Ella va aL colegio. (al = a + el )
(only if she's still at school ) or Ella va a la Universidad (if she goes to college)

This is me = Esta soy yo -It just sounds awkward in a way that isn't as evident in english. If it's a picture I'd definitely use Aqui estoy. -Here I am. Sorry, it just sounds better to me at least.
I live by the library = Yo vivo al lado de la biblioteca (I live right by the library-literally beside/ on the side of the library) or BETTER: Vivo cerca a la biblioteca ( I live close to the library)

On the physical therapist -Odd you think that way about this, but had no problem with the 4th sentence which does the same dealing with a dentist.

The winner was given a lift home, and the others were forced to try and thumb a lift.

Liberals aren't upset that Bush pardoned Libby. Liberals are upset that it was Bush. After all, they can do whatever they want to, but anything a conservative does is automatically horrible. Your litany of Clinton's unpardonable pardons is only relevant insofar as this points up the disgraceful fact that a supposedly independent judiciary system can be undermined by political machinations for selfish ends. Why should any individual have the power to overturn due process?
What Bush has done is not justified by past hypocrisy - he commuted that sentence because Libby acted in his interests, probably with his approval. There's no hiding behind Clinton on this. More wrongs do not make it right.
Does it feel good to have a Republican President who believes his interests are more important than the rule of law? Bush's actions would shame previous great incumbents like Nixon, Reagan, Bush Sr... er... oh.
Maybe not.
These pardons should all be against the law. Why be on a jury when your decision makes no difference?
Of course! The old, "...but Clinton did this....!!" ~ cut to Rep mentioning something that isn't remotely the same. Yawn.
Clinton didn't pardon anyone that was found guilty of something surrounding an investigation within his own administration (all Pres.' pardon). Libby was Cheney's chief of staff for god's sake. Doesn't that reek of corruption? Don't you want a more transparent government than this? Clinton was investigated for his pardons, no grounds were found to indict. I'm not saying I agree with Clinton's pardons, it's clearly ridiculously excessive; but this is just a completely separate situation ~ so your logic in comparing the 2 is flawed. This is also happening NOW with an administration that is known for it's secrecy and corruption.
All that being said ~ I fully expected it and what I'm upset with is this administration as a whole, not just this single event. It didn't surprise me one bit.
1st of all-I'm not upset. 2nd-he did not pardon Libby, he only commuted the prison sentence. The Department of Justice has specific, written guidelines for both commutations and pardons and Libby didn't meet any of the guidelines. The argument that others have violated these guidelines is always an odd justification to me. I don't get out of a speeding ticket because someone passed me driving faster. It's never a legal defense that "he did it, too" so I wish everyone would come off that crap. Some of Clinton's pardons were wrong, too, but I thought the great Christian Bush was better than his predecessor? After all, Clinton actually got impeached for his little escapade with Monica, so he got punished. George Washington owned slaves. So, slavery's ok? Interesting that Bush can find it in his heart to commute Libby's sentence as "too harsh" but wouldn't do anything for the border patrol agents who wounded a Mexican drug dealer (who is now suing the U.S. for damages) because they "got a fair trial and were convicted by a jury of their peers", to quote Bush. Those agents are in a federal penitentiary and get almost no "good time." The hypocrisy is amazing.
I'm sick of hearing about this already. Every President pardons criminals. The opposite party screams foul no matter who they are. Bush 41 pardoned 4 felons involved in Iran-Contra and the Democrats had a fit. Clinton pardoned all those people and the Republicans had a fit. It happens over and over and over. Everybody points fingers at everybody else and in the end it's a usual practice of Presidents every time. I'm definitely in the "so what" contingent on all of this.
Yank says it, will you listen? Treason tops the list of impeachable offenses for Executive branch! Many people went to jail during Vietnam war for disclosing Pentagon papers. Ordinary citizens would and have suffered the full force, including being murdered, for messing with CIA. Infidelity and lying about it-treason and lying about it. Actually Bush didn't PARDON Libby yet....but I am sure he will. And YES every president pardons ppl but it's pretty ballsy that he did what he did right now, esp. since Libby is the fall guy for all the Prez and Prez' men's lying. I was sure he would pardon Libby but I thought that would happen when he left office--I did not think about him commuting his sentance....I chose not to be that pessimistic.

Libbey didn't get a pardon, he is still guilty and has to pay the fine and be on parole his sentence was commuted meaning he wont serve jail time. Bush found time to do this but he wont pardon the two border guards. Libbey will get his pardon just before Bush goes out of office. Stop comparing Bush and Clinton they both abused the office of the president, maybe for different reasons but just the same one is no better than the other when it comes to this issue.

Your litany of Clinton's unpardonable pardons is only relevant insofar as this points up the disgraceful fact that a supposedly independent judiciary system can be undermined by political machinations for selfish ends. Why should any individual have the power to overturn due process?
What Bush has done is not justified by past hypocrisy - he commuted that sentence because Libby acted in his interests, probably with his approval. There's no hiding behind Clinton on this. More wrongs do not make it right.
Does it feel good to have a Republican President who believes his interests are more important than the rule of law? Bush's actions would shame previous great incumbents like Nixon, Reagan, Bush Sr... er... oh.

These pardons should all be against the law. Why be on a jury when your decision makes no difference?

Clinton didn't pardon anyone that was found guilty of something surrounding an investigation within his own administration (all Pres.' pardon). Libby was Cheney's chief of staff for god's sake. Doesn't that reek of corruption? Don't you want a more transparent government than this? Clinton was investigated for his pardons, no grounds were found to indict. I'm not saying I agree with Clinton's pardons, it's clearly ridiculously excessive; but this is just a completely separate situation ~ so your logic in comparing the 2 is flawed. This is also happening NOW with an administration that is known for it's secrecy and corruption.
All that being said ~ I fully expected it and what I'm upset with is this administration as a whole, not just this single event. It didn't surprise me one bit.
1st of all-I'm not upset. 2nd-he did not pardon Libby, he only commuted the prison sentence. The Department of Justice has specific, written guidelines for both commutations and pardons and Libby didn't meet any of the guidelines. The argument that others have violated these guidelines is always an odd justification to me. I don't get out of a speeding ticket because someone passed me driving faster. It's never a legal defense that "he did it, too" so I wish everyone would come off that crap. Some of Clinton's pardons were wrong, too, but I thought the great Christian Bush was better than his predecessor? After all, Clinton actually got impeached for his little escapade with Monica, so he got punished. George Washington owned slaves. So, slavery's ok? Interesting that Bush can find it in his heart to commute Libby's sentence as "too harsh" but wouldn't do anything for the border patrol agents who wounded a Mexican drug dealer (who is now suing the U.S. for damages) because they "got a fair trial and were convicted by a jury of their peers", to quote Bush. Those agents are in a federal penitentiary and get almost no "good time." The hypocrisy is amazing.
I'm sick of hearing about this already. Every President pardons criminals. The opposite party screams foul no matter who they are. Bush 41 pardoned 4 felons involved in Iran-Contra and the Democrats had a fit. Clinton pardoned all those people and the Republicans had a fit. It happens over and over and over. Everybody points fingers at everybody else and in the end it's a usual practice of Presidents every time. I'm definitely in the "so what" contingent on all of this.

Actually Bush didn't PARDON Libby yet....but I am sure he will. And YES every president pardons ppl but it's pretty ballsy that he did what he did right now, esp. since Libby is the fall guy for all the Prez and Prez' men's lying. I was sure he would pardon Libby but I thought that would happen when he left office--I did not think about him commuting his sentance....I chose not to be that pessimistic.

Libbey didn't get a pardon, he is still guilty and has to pay the fine and be on parole his sentence was commuted meaning he wont serve jail time. Bush found time to do this but he wont pardon the two border guards. Libbey will get his pardon just before Bush goes out of office. Stop comparing Bush and Clinton they both abused the office of the president, maybe for different reasons but just the same one is no better than the other when it comes to this issue.

its sounds like the character is really hyper and fun. You could run aroun the stage a lot. Just stay in constant motion, even if its just waving your hands or jumping up and down, and you should be fine!Monolouge/audition help!!!?
The important thing is to be incredibly excited. You should almost be out of breath at the start. I'd start "off-stage" (out of everyone's view) and run back and forth a couple of times, then come RUNNING in and start the delivery. THAT will make the entire monologue exciting, and everyone will be listening. (That's the whole key to a successful monologue! If no one is paying attention, you lose.)
Practice it that way too. You almost don't need to get every word exact, as long as the emotion of excitement is there.
When you get to the "sister" part you REALLY have to kick it up even more excited, like you're going to burst out of your skin!
Use the chair to grip onto it when your excited, as though it's the only thing keeping you from floating. (You're THAT excited.)

The ones that really got into it with passion were the best. The ones that concentrated more on getting every word exact seemed phony. If you practice this enough, you'll have it down.
But like I said, get yourself almost out of breath before you start it, and everyone will be paying attention to your every single word.
Do that and I guarantee you'll ace it!

Why am I so inexplicably happy?
It all started two days ago with a guy who I know has a massive crush on me asking me to prom, even though I'm gay (which he should have realized by now. I haven't exactly been hiding it). I said no politely, and proceeded to text my friend Ruth all about it. We're close. We've known each other since we were about nine, but we only really got to see each other in the summer until we were 13, when we started seeing each other outside of summer camp. The joke going around camp was that we were dating, and we played along and acted like it.
You see, everyone on the camps has known each other for ages, so there is a natural kind of pair-bonding thing, where couples split off from the group either intentionally or by choice. Katie and Chris, Kate and Ben, Emily and Ben K, me and Ruth. And, as what probably happens at a lot of large gatherings of teenagers, there is kissing, groping and making out, either by choice or dare. For me and Ruth, kissing was predominantly by dare...except the biting. That was choice.
So, I asked Ruth to prom. And she said yes. I actually did a little twirl when she said yes. I hadn't realized how much I wanted her to say yes until she actually did. We're meeting up on Saturday. Even though she doesn't go to my school, I'm going to bring her to prom if it kills me. We've been texting and facebook-ing almost constantly since, and a lot of our texts are ending in 'xxx' or '鈾モ櫏鈾?#039;. Am I developing a little crush on Ruth?Why am I so inexplicably happy?

Not really. If you like it, you like it. I occasionally listen to music that I probably should be embarrassed about, but I'm not. I listen to We Are The World sometimes because it reminds me of being really little. If there was ever a song to be embarrassed about, that'd be it! There's nothing wrong with RATM and NIN has some really good instrumental stuff.

Why doesnt obama salute the flag?
The Truth:
The picture is authentic. It was published in Time magazine and was taken 9/16/07 at an event in Indianola, Iowa where six Democratic presidential candidates appeared. It was Iowa Senator Tom Harkin's annual "meat and greet." The fourth person in the picture is Senator Harkin's wife, Ruth. Not seen in the picture are three other candidates who were standing out of view on the right side of the platform, Senator Chris Dodd, Senator John Edwards, Senator Joe Biden.
At question is what was going on with Senator Obama? His critics are circulating the picture and saying that he is not respecting the flag or the national anthem, especially since the protocol, according to the United States Flag code, is that civilians should have their right hands over their hearts and that they should be facing the flag. His supporters are saying that this little lapse should not be held against him since there have been plenty of other events at which he has saluted the flag---so it did not mean that he would, in principle, avoid doing it.
Some supporters have suggested that perhaps the picture does not tell the whole story and that he may have raised his hand shortly after it was taken.
An ABC News video, however, shows that Senator Obama did not salute at any time during the anthem and that everybody else on the platform did.
A spokesperson for the Senator told Fox News that it was ridiculous to suggest that Obama was making any kind of a statement and that sometimes "he does and sometimes he doesn't place his hand over his heart during the national anthem."

I just don't understand this guy. How he can come off trying to become president and not even respect the values of our country. I'm sorry, but your job as president is not to tell how people to live their lives. I don't like this guy. And I hope to goodness he doesn't become president. My question of that photo is why is the shadow so much longer for Obama than the others. two all of them seem to be facing different directions. Note the man next to Obama is looking out the way not to his left as the others. It looks really like some bit of photoshop if you study it a bit more. shadows are totally different for all of them and the man next to Obama has not shadow at all. what is he a vampire? in fact he does have a small shadow. I do think it is a bit of photoshop really due to the fact of the shadows and it sure looks strange to me that the two women are facing the same direction the man is facing a totally different way and Obama is facing yet another totally different direction.

I am a 25 year veteran of the Navy. I also know that the Pledge of Allegiance was written for the Boy Scouts' magazine over one hundred years ago and hasn't anything to do with one's qualification for office. At ball games I always remove my cap and place it over my heart during the playing of the National Anthem. I also sing the anthem, as opposed to the very few others who even know the words. Thanks to a new law I will be able to legally salute the flag this season during the playing of the National Anthem. I do this, even though I know that the playing of the National Anthem at base ball games can only trace its roots back to World War Two and that the Anthem itself was not the legal, official, National Anthem until the 1930s.
I also know that Senator Obama is a Christian. As for his middle name, I personally know two people whose family name is Hussein. It means "handsome" in Arabic. Both of these two people are Christians.
I have no intention to ever vote for electors pledged to the election of Barrack Hussein Obama as President should he gain the nomination of his party. But, I am getting sick and tired of those who oppose him because of a lot of incidental, non-important crap!

Why are Americans SOOO stupid to vote for someone who not only doesn't salute the flag, BUT wears a Turban on his head amongst his Muslim allies (possibly terrorists). Americans have to stop being fooled and realize that this guy can ruin our country even more than Bush has. The Slider, And Baseball's False Sense of Timlessness?
I really like Chris Rock; I heard him the other day saying that Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth should have an asterisk next to their records because they did not play with blacks. This, combined with Bonds' chase got me thinking: doesn't this kind of assume the level of competition would have otherwise been similar? Isn't that false in and of itself, with or without steroids?
The game is not the same; humans are not the same physically or mentally.
But let's stick with on the field...
The slider: has revolutionized the game and impacted it in so many ways that it is impossible to compare pre-slider baseball with post slider baseball.
While slider-like pitches were being used since baseball began, we can agree that it didn't become a major part of the game (used by most pitchers) until well after WW II.
The slider has meant more injuries, more strike outs, and more homers (hanging sliders). If one pitch has so many variables, can we really compare Ruth/Bonds in any meaningful way?The Slider, And Baseball's False Sense of Timlessness?

Cobb, wasn't quite as dominant -vs- his peers, he was a great hitter though.
In Comparison -
Bonds hit 73 HR's in 2001. EVERY other team had at least 120. 4 players had over 50 HR's.
Now, all that being said, Bonds (whether he cheated or not) is probably the best hitter of all time, however, no player dominated an era even close to the way Babe Ruth did. And had Ruth played in the "post slider" era, I'm sure he would still have dominated (remember, the spitball was widely used in Ruth's era). “When Jack turned around, all he saw was still water where his daughter was swimming a few moments ago.” Lane starred at the TV screen as if it were her first time seeing this news on NBC. She had come to every search engine her mind thought of to tell her that Jane really did disappear; Jane’s dad almost from the shock. As NBC again recited the story, Lane listened with the most care... “As Jack Axelwood ( 41 ) and Jane Axelwood, ( 18 ) were kayaking on the Lake Erie, Jane disappeared after a loud disturbance on the water. There have bin 12 other accounts of the same nature, including, Su-lu-young, Kate, Harry, Maggie, Isabella, Marta, Martha, Ruth, Eibhlin, Bella, Edward, Chris, and Jane, making it 13 cases of missing children and teens, all under 20… And now we turn to Dr. Montgomery….” Lane stopped listening as the Dr. described in boring detail as what he thought happened to the children. Nothing new was heard in this news segment, but maybe in the morning there will be more news. Lane couldn’t stand it any longer. Her step daughter had disappeared the moment she let her out of her sight. From the other side of the hall, a female voice cries “Ok I’ll tell you everything I know! Please stop hurting me! Stop! I will tell you everything I know about the monster!!!” “That’s why we are torturing her, my friend” said Mr. Dee; “She has information we need to know.” After that, Mr. Dee told Nyle why they did what they did to Lane. “…and after I found out she started to do some private investigating about the disappearance of the kids, she started to go to Lake Erie more often then necessary. So one day I had a spy follow she using the cover of the tourist guide. She took a boat and after three hours can back to shore carrying a very large bundle. When asked what was inside it, she chose not to lie and say something about investigating the “monster.” After that, she stayed in her house for four days! They were in a team of 10 people who live on finding treasures and excavating old sites. hmmm, you should give the victims in the beginning last names. It is unrealistic that a newscast would not mention their last names. Also, be careful that you put the names Bella and Edward right next to each other. I don't really care, but there will be people who get all over you for using "Twilight names" and especially if u use them together like that. Not my opinion, but something to watch out for. Also, when you describe Lane waking up and all, you say that it hurt her the second she tried to move, but then you say she collapses. She couldn't have stood up the second she moved. I think you should make it more gradual. Like she moves and it hurts, then she pushes herself into a sitting position, ignoring the pain. She tries to stand up, but collapses and that is when somebody comes behind her and knocks her out.

Thinking about becoming a bus boy?
I went in and applied at "Ruth's Chris" it's a steak house here in Hawaii. Very fine dining establishment I guess one could say. Pays minimum wage (* 7.25 *) plus tips, I asked the manager what the tip out is like - $30-50 a night at 6 hours per shift. This is about 80 dollars a night. Is this good for a fine dining establishment? I've heard others have made over $100.. Also, can any former bussers out there share any tips? I've never done this sort of job before, I only have dishwashing experience, and I want to show everyone that I can do a good job.Thinking about becoming a bus boy?
Its a great way to become a waiter and 80 bucks a night isn't bad at all. Plus if your under 18, you cant serve yet anyway. If you are over 18, i'd say shoot for a less expensive place and try to serve there, youll prob get more doing that and the work is less disgusting

I would like to get a gift certificate for a friend of mine (approximately 60) yrs old) to a nice restaurant. She is getting married. I would like the price range for dinner to be around $100 to $150 (with drinks, entrees and appetizers) for two. She has very nice/expensive taste. Looking for a white creamy steak sauce recipe?
I was at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse a couple weeks ago and I ordered a chef's special. It was a small fillet with lump crab on top and it was served with some creamy white sauce you could pour on top. I want to say they called it some kind of Imperial Sauce but I can't say that for sure, probably got it confused with another restaurant. Bosses boss is in town - just finished a Potbelly's turkey sandwich, dusted 6 little cookies, followed up by a big M%26amp;M cookie, and now its time for dinner.
I'm stuffed, can't breath, but I can have a 22oz filet on the company @ Gibson's, Morton's, Ruth's Chris or Chicago Chop.
Should I;
1 - have a salad, risking the obvious sissified appearance, but allowing some breathing room, and not sinning, or
2 - force the 22oz filet down with a big smile, knowing I'm likely going to burst, and am being a glutton, and likely sinning?

Birthday ideas for my boyfriend?
I plan on taking my boyfriend of 9 months out to dinner for his 20th birthday at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. But i also wanted to do something else for him. I was thinking of making a collage of pictures of us, as well as things we've done together like ticket stubs, putt putt scores, etc. I also had the idea of putting a picture of us, and putting a lyric from one of 'our' songs or putting a really cute quote underneath. And lastly, i had the idea of taking a picture at sunset of where we had our first kiss and framing it for him. I wouldn't do all of these, just one. How to mentally deal with cutting off relationship with parents?
I am having a problem with mentally dealing with the severed relationship with my parents and older sister. In early 2003, my wife helped me realize that getting thrown against walls, punched in the face, kicked on the ground, publicly embarrassed and humiliated, told I was going to amount to nothing but a piece of ****, et cetera, et cetera was not the normal treatment of good loving parents. Throughout my time living at home I lived on pins and needles. My family wasn't poor, we had a nice house, parents drove nice cars and we ate out at nice restaurants often. I never ever used drugs to this day and only drank alcohol once in high school. As soon as I turned 18 I moved out of my parents house and into an apartment. When I told my parents I was leaving, they seemed excited, they couldn't wait. In fact, my mom informed me she was turning my old bedroom into a sewing room. I enrolled in a local college and paid for it myself even though my parents paid for my sisters four years at a private college. As a married adult with one child I went to the birthdays, Christmas', Thanksgivings, et cetera. I started to notice a patern evolve. In 2001, my parents showed me plans of a house they were building in a ritzy neighborhood, they decided to only make it 2500 sq. ft. because the kids were older and they didn't need as much space. Well, two months before they were to break ground, I purchased a 3600 sq. ft. home in a nice area. Within weeks of them finding out, they redid their house plans to be 4500 sq. ft.. In 2003, I told them my parents I was shopping for a summer lake home on the same lake my parents used to have one (they sold it when I was 18). The tried to talk me out of it, telling me every reason why not to get it. Well, while standing in front of a lake home that I was looking at with a realtor, I see my parents pull up in my fathers cherry red corvette. I asked what they were up to since it was 45 minutes away from their home and they said they were just driving around. Two weeks later I get a call from my mother bragging that they just purchased a lake home on the same lake I was shopping. In 2005, I purchased a Cadillac CTS, within a few months, my mother got one. In that same year my younger brother at the time (around 18 years of age) signed up for the Marines. He and my younger sister were my parents prodigy. My parents purchased them brand new cars (us three older ones had to pay for ours). It was obvious my parents were raising the my two younger siblings differently. My immediate family (me, wife and daughter) traveled to San Diego with my parents and the rest of the family (flew different airline, stayed same hotel). At the end of the ceremony I captured, on video, my parents obvious signs of being proud of their child. I found myself with mixed tears of a proud brother and jealousy. Now for the straw that broke the camels back (there are many many more things that lead up to this that I can't put in writing because of text length restraints). After he graduated boot camp, he called about four months later to inform us he was going to Iraq for a 12 month tour. My mother decided to throw him a party 5 days before he ships out. She sent us an invite with the date and time and of course we RSVP'd yes. Well, 3 days before the scheduled party, she calls me and tells me she scheduled the party on the same day my brothers girlfriends parents scheduled something for him, so she was having the party two days earlier than the scheduled date. I told her that I had someone flying in from Florida on that day and couldn't make it. I wasn't about to have a client eat airfare, hotel, and car rental. I informed her that my wife and I will take him and his girlfriend out to dinner at Ruth's Chris before he goes; which we did and it was great one on one time, more than I would have gotten at a party. Anyway, on the same day my mother called to change the date, my father called later in the afternoon and left me the nastiest voice mail message. The things he said were things you don't say to your own child. The one thing that stuck out specifically that made me break was when he said "If your brother were to die over there, you'll have to live with that the rest of your life". What father would say something like that? After calling him back and ripping him a new asshole and telling him how horrible he was for say that, I never spoke to him again. That was in August of 2005. In a nutshell, my mother is a lieing, manipulating, *****. My father is a miserable man that has always hated his career and taken it out on my older brother and I. I have only really kept in contact with my younger brother and sister and sometimes my older brother. My older brother lives in California and started talking to me in January, but stopped talking to me about two months ago because I wouldn't loan him $2600 that I don't have. Obviously they are unhealthy people to be around and you and your family should not be subjected to an unstable environment. It is important to not hate them but as an adult and for your own health abstaining from contact is necessary to live a healthier stress free life. You cannot alter the family you were born into but learn from their mistakes. You can make the current family you have created loving and supportive, which differs from your own past experiences but doing this your new family may flourish. If you do find that you miss them I suggest maybe just post cards every once any awhile but nothing to serious.

Your parents sound like mine and I am also finding it a nightmare to break ties. Their poisonous words ring in my ears daily and I have nightmares most nights. You need to break free, move as far away as possible and don't tell them where you are. Concentrate on your own family now and I really hope you can get to enjoy the rest of your life. A not so Happy Fathers Day
Ch 1
"Welcome Mr. Whitlock," the Maitre De of Ruth's Chris Steakhouse greeted Kent personally. “I am deeply sorry for the loss you recently suffered. Your father Kenneth was one of our most valued customers at our restaurant.
“Thank you,” Kent replied as he averted his green eyes. He hated this whole spectacle of the Maitre De greeting him, even if he meant well.
“Is there anything in particular you’d like today? I’m sure you are aware we will prepare it even if it is not on the menu.
"Thank you. Just Chateau Margaux 1995 please," Kent ordered flawlessly.
"Of course, I remember your father ordering the same wine, and what about something to eat?”
"Just the drink please,” Kent replied in a rush to get drunk.
"Right," the Maitre de nodded and disappeared into the kitchen.
Kent gazed around the room, and as usual everyone was staring at him.
“Goodness, I can’t believe he is out like this by himself, and on Father’s Day,” a woman sitting across the room in a tweed Chanel suit whispered to her friend.
“That whole real estate company is going crash with that kid running the show,” a man sitting two tables away claimed not so discreetly.
Kent self consciously pushed back a strand of black hair that fell in his face. He was used to people talking about him or his father, but today all he wanted to do was block it out. As much as he wanted to honor his dad by going out on Father’s Day, he was now having regrets and just wanted to go home.
Kenneth Whitlock used to be the most prestigious real estate tycoon in Los Angeles. He designed and built several Hollywood homes, many of which were custom made for celebrities. With Kenneth's photo posted all over Hollywood, the Whitlock family had become something of celebrities themselves. If Kent ever made an appearance in a Hollywood night club or restaurant, it would be on the front page of the newspaper the next day. His male model looks didn't seem to hurt either.
About a month ago Kenneth Whitlock had a heart attack and passed away unexpectedly. He was only fifty two years old and had left his son with everything, which was more of a burden than it seemed. While Kent was quite knowledgeable in real estate, the business of running the company his father built from the ground was a lot of pressure for a twenty four year old that had never worked a day in his life. Losing his father still felt surreal, and today on Fathers Day he wanted to somehow reconcile with himself by dining at his dads favorite restaurant, but it seemed to be having the opposite effect.
He loosened his Hugo Boss white tie a little bit to try and relieve the tension he felt, but with all eyes piercing through him it wasn’t working. All he wanted to do was immerse in the light-weight black cherry flavor of the wine that he was now waiting impatiently for. Finally, for what seemed like hours, the waitress arrived. In an attempt to avoid more stares, Kent began sending text messages on his Blackberry and didn't bother looking up.
"Here you go Sir," she said as she carefully poured the bottle of wine into a glass. Out of the corner of his eye Kent could see gorgeous dark red tendrils of hair floating above the table.
"It's such a nice day today, perfect Fathers Day weather," the waitress babbled on while pouring. As she leaned forward her hair brushed his wrist, and she tucked it behind her ear.
"I haven't seen this place so busy since- oh no! Oh crap!" she shrieked as the large bottle toppled out of her hands. The nearly black liquid spilled onto Kent's white tie and onto his Blackberry instantly breaking it. That certainly caused him to look up.
"I am so sorry!" the waitress apologized over and over. She pulled a dish towel out of her apron and desperately tried to clean the mess.
Kent was just about to express his irritation, but became too dumbfounded to speak, and it wasn't just from the cold drink. He continued to study her as panic glimmered throughout her eyes. Unlike most redheads, she had sun kissed skin and only a few freckles that dotted her slim arms. He wondered what nationality she was, and if her deep auburn hair color was natural. It reminded him of autumn.
"Erica!" a manager tore off across the room bright red with anger. If only half of the room was staring before, now everyone was looking.
"Do you realize you just spilled a thousand dollar bottle of wine all over one of our most favored clieIs this a captivating enough first chapter? (edited)?
I would not use the word captivating for this chapter. For one, opening with dialogue makes it tough to be captivating. Two, you have to drink a lot of Chateau Margaux to get drunk. If he wanted to block out everything...why does he find himself in a very public restaurant? Too much telling about the background info. A key to good writing: SHOW don't TELL. Too many ordinary details. Today's stories need to move along at a good clip. Dig a little deeper into the emotional tension of this character. We've got to care about him more than just about a guy who wants to forget he lost his dad. Get rid of verbs "was" and "were". Try different sentence structures. And, does he really just have a bottle of wine poured on him and all he does it look up and marvel about this girl's looks? That's a lot of thinking for someone who just had wine spilled on him.

It sounds like you're rushing. Slow it down and add more description, but don't give us so much information. If you hold out information, your audience will want to keep reading.
I know as a writer when you have a good idea you want to just get to the point, but you need to take your time.
This has the potential to be great.

Should I break my vegetariansim?
I have been a vegetarian for a year. During that time I have eaten meat once while in Bangkok. I was really sick and McDonalds was the only thing I could stomach for some bizarre reason.
My best friend who I have known for nearly a decade is moving to Brooklyn on Jan. 1. He has a $100 gift certificate for Ruth's Chris steakhouse. He wants me to go there with him and have a $50 fillet for our last meal together.
I'm conflicted as to whether I should go with him. On one hand I would like to celebrate the occasion with him but on the other hand I think I might feel guilty for eating meat.
I'm not even sure why I am vegetarian. I suppose it's for reasons of discipline.
What do you think I should do?Should I break my vegetariansim?
